Julie Gerber
Current City: Los Angeles.
Current Job and Entrepreneurial Focus: Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer at Meloscene.
Notable Prior Jobs: 13 years artist management for Chad Gerber; global health researcher for USAID Stop TB Partnership.
When I Started Performing: I began acting in plays and singing in youth choirs at the age of 6.
Performing Arts Background: Throughout secondary school, I sang in choirs and participated in drama, acting in plays, musicals, dinner theater, and variety shows. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2010, I have done background acting in music videos, modeled, and provided some background vocals for a music track.
How did your performing arts background supercharge your entrepreneurship? I believe one of the greatest factors holding people back from entrepreneurial pursuits is an aversion to risk. In the performing arts, you learn to put yourself out there, risking failure and rejection while everyone is watching. Being an entrepreneur is similar in the sense that I have to put myself on the line to prove the viability of a new idea. It’s both terrifying and exhilarating, but my performing arts background has helped equip me to bounce back from criticism and setbacks and continue accelerating forward.

Dawn E Robinson
Current City: West Hollywood, CA.
Current Job and Entrepreneurial Focus: CEO & Co-Founder.
Notable Prior Jobs: Senior Account Manager - I spent 10 years in the recruiting industry. It was a mix of HR, Business Development, and Relationship Management. There was lots of rejection, long days, but finding jobs for people was very rewarding! I was so good, one of my clients hired me.
When I Started Performing: When I was in kindergarten, I sang "He's got the whole world in his hands" for the talent show. The entire audience clapped along as I sang.
Performing Arts Background: My first love is dance. I have modeled since I was 17. I am also an actor.
How did your performing arts background supercharge your entrepreneurship? Both performing arts and entrepreneurship come with a great deal of rejection. Just as it takes time to hone the skills to dance, model, and act, getting a startup from inception to prototype to market takes time. Knowing that I need to put in the work every day to see the results is the push I carry with me every day as an entrepreneur. And just as the more auditions I do get me closer to being booked, the more pitches we give, the closer we get to yes.
Favorite Performer: Diahann Carroll.
